We prefer patients soften ear wax with olive oil for two nights prior to their appointment.

1. Start your softening drops 2-3 days ( once per day) before your earwax removal appointment.
2. Lay on your side and place 2-5 drops of olive oil into the ear canal, allow 10-15 minutes for the oil to soak into your ear canal and penetrate the entire wax plug.
3. Administering right before bed will enable the drops to penetrate into the wax prior to the drops draining out once you are upright again
4. It is okay to use some cotton wool in the outer ear after administration to keep the drops inside your ear for longer.
5. Do not use a cotton bud to administer. Just follow the instructions on the "Ear Clear" bottle and drip into the ear. You don’t want to push the wax further down!

• You will be brought into our new clinic room at your allocated appointment time. Your appointment will involve taking a detailed ear and medical history. We will explain the procedure outlining the associated risks and benefits as well as obtaining a written and verbal consent. A carer or family member is welcome to join you if required.

• We will look in your ears prior to the procedure and conduct a full assessment.

• Next, we will move you onto the medical bed and position you into a comfortable position to allow us to see clearly into your ear canal. You will notice microsuction is loud. It is very important you remain still and follow instructions when required. We are always happy to stop at any time if you require to do so. The procedure can take anywhere from 5 mins to 30 minutes. Patients describe the procedure as unusual, but painless.

• Post procedure we will discuss clinical recommendations and how to best care for your ears including wax management and education. Should we identify any concerns during your treatment we will refer you to your GP for further care.
